History of Silba is probably best depicted on its coat of arms. The shield is divided into four fields depicting the most important moments in Silban history.

Within the first one we can see St. Joseph reminding us of 19th of May 1852 when local community announced him as its patron saint. On that very day community managed to buy out the whole island from its previous masters.

Second field is red with brass crown on it, reminding of the crown wore by Silban king. The crown is today kept in the parish church.

Third field is blue with three biggest island towers – “castelli”. They were built in order to protect inhabitants from the pirates.

The fourth field represents “manzera”, ships used to be build in 18th century for cattle transportation. Ship reminds us of times when the Silban fleet was on its peak.
